Zambia GO Trip
October 21 - November 1, 2022
Margaret sat outside the Chongwe Police Station in Zambia.
Seeking shelter from the scorching sun, she dropped down into the dirt and sat under the lone tree in the lot. Her face conveyed an expression of deep sadness.
Three days earlier her son, Robert, had been arrested.
He had been out partying, celebrating Zambia’s Independence Day. He drank too much, and in his drunkenness struck his cousin in the head with a rock. He was supposed to go to prison, but was instead being released.
Margaret was happy he was being released, but worried about his future. While she was thinking about it all, she heard a voice.
It belonged to Elizabeth, a faithful believer at a church partnering with ShareWord Global. Elizabeth had just received training on relational evangelism from the GO Team in Zambia and she didn’t know why, but she had felt called to the police station that day.
“Mama,” she said. “Can I speak with you about my Lord Jesus?” Margaret nodded.
From there Elizabeth shared the gospel, as well as the hope and salvation that come with it.
Margaret’s face became noticeably excited.
“God brought you here, to me, right now,” she said purposefully.
She told Elizabeth why she was there and the deep sadness she was feeling. She asked Elizabeth to pray for her – that she could be a good example to her son, and not be distracted from her faith by the world. And she asked for prayers for her son, Robson.
“Pray that he goes from Saul to Paul,” she asked. “Saul had done many bad things. But God came to him. God changed him from Saul to Paul. If God can do that for Saul, he can do it for my son.” she said.
Elizabeth was moved to tears at the request. She prayed with Margaret, and gave her two Hope magazines – one for Margaret, and one for her son.
Margaret’s story is one of countless from the GO Trip to Zambia, and stories like hers show the impact these trips are having all over the world.
Thank you so much for being part of a movement that is building up local churches to transform their communities with the gospel.
